UTs Dell Medical School Starts Construction
AUSTIN, Texas — Construction of the new Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin is currently underway in the southeastern portion of campus. A ceremony at the construction site was held April 21 to unveil a new mosaic rendering of the project.


Dr. Randy Avent has been named the first president of Florida Polytechnic University, the newest institution in the Florida State University system. Avent is currently the associate vice chancellor for research development, as well as a professor computer science, at North Carolina State University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of North Carolina, and his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The University of California, Santa Barbara has selected Sundt Construction Inc. to build the school’s new $38.5 million Henley Hall Institute for Energy Efficiency. Sundt’s Irvine, Calif. location will serve as construction manager at risk for the 53,000-square-foot project.
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Westfield State University recently debuted the renovation of Ely Campus Center and the construction of its new student residence, University Hall.
PALM DESERT, Calif. — Construction of the new Applied Sciences Complex at the College of the Desert–Palm Desert Campus began in February.
Jeanne Qiu, AIA, CDT, LEED AP, has joined the St. Louis office of HOK as a lab planner in the firm’s Science + Technology practice. In her new position, Qiu will be responsible for the planning, programming and design of lab spaces for both university and corporate clients. She is currently working on the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) lab design in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia and office and lab space for BioGenerator in the CORTEX district in St. Louis.
