EVERETT — Contractors literally have been placed between a rock and a hard place as they work on a $10.2 million remodel and expansion at Jefferson Elementary School.

Higher education likely will take a cut in the next budget year, at least 5.2 percent. But college officials are hopeful that their campus building projects will get a financial boost.

ROCHESTER — An especially wet spring and fall, along with bitterly cold weather last month, are delaying two of the Rochester School District’s largest construction projects ever — a new intermediate school on its East Main campus and a fieldhouse on the Illinois 29 campus.  

Construction is continuing on Jurupa Hills High School, the fifth comprehensive high school in the Fontana Unified School District. The 45-acre school at 10700 Oleander Avenue in southern Fontana is scheduled to open with ninth and 10th graders in August for the 2010-2011 term.

They defeated seven of the nine school construction projects up for votes in communities across the state Tuesday.

EDISON, N.J. — Township voters overwhelmingly rejected both questions on the ballot Tuesday that sought approval for a total of $167 million for school construction and expansion.

The Eldon School Board voted to accept a $75,685 bid from local construction company Curtis Manes Schulte during the regular meeting Thursday, Jan. 21, at the board office.

Caterpillar Inc. today announced sales and revenues of $32.396 billion for 2009, a decrease of 37 percent from $51.324 billion in 2008. Â Profit per share was $1.43, down 75 percent. Â Excluding redundancy costs of $0.75, 2009 profit was $2.18 per share.
