SANTA MONICA, Calif. — It’s an expensive summer for Santa Monica High School. The school is currently under construction with a $55 million, 97,000-square-foot Science and Technology Building, which will replace two existing and outdated facilities with one modern facility.
DURHAM, N.C. — A new middle school will open in Durham, N.C., just in time for the 2012-2013 school year. Lucas Middle School, part of Durham Public Schools, is also seeking LEED certification for the $25 million project.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Schools in Ohio are gearing up for future construction projects, thanks to recent state funding totaling nearly $500 million for school construction projects.
A total of 26 districts in Ohio will be benefiting from school construction dollars. The state is also required to contribute local funding for school construction, which will nearly double the total construction dollars.
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — After voters approved a $78 million bond issue to finance renovations, expansions and infrastructure improvements for the Riverhead Central School District, BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers have moved forward with the phased construction program at eight sites.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is in the process of developing plans for a $37 million research center. Officials say the new facility will help the school meets its goal of tripling graduate enrollment in addition to the amount of annual research awards.
The 120,000-square-foot center will be funded partly by student tuition dollars, though most of the money will come from grants and private and federal funding.
DENVER — Colorado school districts are currently waiting for state construction dollars from the state Capital Construction Assistance Board. The CCAB ends its meetings Friday, June 29 and will decide the winners of the 2012-13 grants from the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) program.
SILVER SPRING, Md. — The National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA) will once again fund travel and participation to the only event devoted exclusively to furniture, fixtures and equipment for education facilities. Each year, the School Equipment Show showcases the newest and most innovative products for educational facilities. Decision makers at a school, college or university involved in any part of the design, building, or renovation of an educational facility are invited to apply for an NSSEA School Facility Grant. The applications are due June 29, 2012.
