It could be said a new school year is a time to build something new. The school districts of Lockport and Royalton-Hartland are taking that literally: Both districts are in the middle of capital construction projects

School-zone signs will not be installed near Henrico County’s new high school on Staples Mill Road in time for Tuesday’s opening day.

In a letter to parents this week, Donna McCormick-Miller, principal of Makefield Elementary School, said the school鈥檚 new opening day will be Tuesday, Sept. 7, instead of Sept. 1 due to the ongoing renovation and construction at the school.

Representatives from the Ohio State School for the Blind, the Ohio School for the Deaf, and other parties involved in the $28 million construction project to build a new campus will meet next week to discuss potential cuts.
