The new commons area, ninth-grade wing, cafeteria and music rooms at the Milford High School construction site are starting to look a lot more like rooms.

St. James Elementary School construction is ontinuing as Westward Construction has set up shop on the property and has been demolishing and preparing the site for its new facelift. LJ Hart Incorporated gave an update to the Board of Education on the sale of the Qualified Zone Academy Bonds (QZAB) and the Qualified School Construction bonds (QSCB) that were issued for sale last week.

FREMONT — Plans are moving along at the new middle school site. The $27 million facility is scheduled to open for the 2011-12 school year.

Initial claims for unemployment benefits climbed 13,000 last week — the second increase in three weeks. Greater layoffs by construction firms and schools contributed to the increase. The number of people continuing to claim benefits rose by 43,000.

There is good news for School District of Rhinelander taxpayers.

A private Christian school led by the Grand Traverse County Road Commission’s former manager is the last holdout in the county’s efforts to purchase property for a Hammond Road to Keystone Road connection project.

The Eddyville-Blakesburg school board approved bonding a maximum of $3 million against sales tax revenue to construct a new elementary school, upgrade the high school electrical system and work on the roof of the Eddyville elementary school.
